MY NAME IS KERSTIN,
and going from A to B in a straight line is not in my DNA. Already as a young high school graduate I could not decide whether to accept an offer from the Sorbonne or to attend the Hochschule der Künste in my home town of Berlin. I decided for the latter only to change after a few semesters to become a high school teacher. During this time, I also completed a 2 year dance education program as part of my studies at the Free University Berlin.
Throughout this whole period of search I taught modern dance classes by making use of the many years I spent in dance education and gymnastic.
After moving with the whole family to Toronto and then to Vancouver, I slowly but surely activated my creative potential – as far as this was possible with two kids and a full job at UBC.
The wild and rich coast of the Salish Sea and the mountains and valleys around Pemberton inspired all kind of artistic activities from painting and woodwork jewellery to felting and knitting and working with concrete.
My little studio in Vancouver and the one in our reconstructed barn in Sechzehneichen, Germany, give me the space and opportunity to try and to experiment. And this is what I do…
